Introduction

· Background and Miscellaneous Information

In 1999, Costco first proposed adding a gas station at the existing site. This was met by opposition form the
local residents. At this time Costco withdrew the project proposal.

In Spring of 2005, Costco proposed a new warehouse and a large scale gas station facility.

During subsequent numerous meetings, a majority of the local community voiced opposition to the inclusion
of the gas station.

We are a grass roots group of residents without a major sponsor or funds with which to research the EIR, or
produce PR material.

A petition with nearly 800 signatures from 600 residences against the addition of the gas station was
presented to the City. Our effort petition effort differs in that unpaid volunteers sacrificed their time to
discuss the pros and cons of the issue to collect the signatures.

To date many households have received fliers from Costco asking for support and insinuating we are liars,
as paraphrased "this is not true" in their mailer.

The City has sent multiple mailings to houses to advertise this meeting. Some in our neighborhood see this
level of repetitive mailing as a biased effort by some in the City supporting the Costco project. Speaking for
myself, and as some one who received eight notices from the City, I give the staff the benefit of the doubt.
They are hard working, and conscientious. Perhaps, I received the eight mailings because I am on several
distribution lists. I hope that you too, will give the staff the benefit of the doubt, as I have, and assume this is
the case.

Facilities and Businesses in our Neighborhood
