Cynthia Cruz, representing Youth United for Community Action (YUCA), a non-profit grassroots organization based in East Palo Alto that works on issues regarding the environment. She stated that the Romic campaign involves numerous violations including four worker injuries, that the company has been cited for significant non- compliance, there is no permit, there has been a chemical release, a truck leak, and fires. She stated her presence was pertaining to the Redwood City Transfer Station. Larissa Flores stated that on May 30, the Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) issued an enforcement order which shut down 70% of Romic's operations that included closure of the transfer station. In June, Clean Harbors bought Romic assets including the transfer station, and YUCA is encouraging Redwood City to take a stance to encourage the DTSC to hold the enforcement in order and Romic accountable.
