AB 1392 would
transfer to the City title to the Maple Street Site (Trust Addition Lands) in Redwood City and
support two City goals; building affordable housing and securing a much needed childcare
location.
On June 11, 2018, the City Council took action to execute a Land Exchange and Title Settlement
Agreement (Agreement) with the State Lands Commission (SLC) for the Bradford Street Project,
an affordable housing development for seniors. The exchange in land consists of exchanging
out of trust portions (Trust Termination Lands) of contiguous properties the City intends to
develop for affordable housing with the Trust Addition Lands.
While the focus of the bill is to require that the City hold the Maple Street Site in trust, this
legislation is the culmination of efforts between the City, community partners, and the State
Lands Commission that will allow the City and MiclPen Housing to move forward with
constructing a 117 -unit affordable housing project.
During this time when communities across California are experiencing housing challenges, the
117 units is a critical step towards supporting affordable housing in Redwood City. One of the
City's top priorities is increasing affordable housing for vulnerable populations and this project
will support very -low income seniors. The project also includes the construction of a much
needed day care facility, which is one of only two commercial child care projects to have come
forward and been approved in the past six years.
