05/20/2019
system needs to be a campus -wide system with one set of bi-directional amplifiers with
coverage extended into all levels of all buildings and garages. This signal distribution is typically
accomplished with fiber optics. [COA] [FIRE]
55. Fire Department Knox Building Access - Knox Key boxes are required as part of this project
to allow emergency access for firefighters to all buildings. Indicate on the pains that Knox Key
boxes will be provided at the entrances to all buildings at locations approved by the fire
department. Recessed key boxes shall be installed at all buildings five to six feet above finished
grade. [SDR- CFC 506][FIRE]
56. Fire Apparatus Turn Arounds - Are required at the end of all Fire Access Lanes in excess of
150 feet. These turnarounds shall meet the City of Redwood City engineering standards. [SDR -
D103.4] [FIRE]
57. Access Roads - Fire apparatus access roads shall be designed and maintained to support the
imposed loads of fire apparatus and shall be surfaced so as to provide all weather driving
capabilities. Fire access lanes shall be engineered to carry the imposed load of 75,000 pounds
and be surfaced with AC or Concrete. Concrete may be stamped or pervious as long as it meets
the load bearing requirements. [SDR -503.2.3] [FIRE]
58. Aerial Apparatus - At least one of the required aerial fire apparatus access routes meeting this
condition shall be located within a minimum of 15 feet and a maximum of 30 feet from each
building, and shall be positioned parallel to one entire side of each building as per 2016 CFC
D105.3. [FIRE]
59. No Parking -The plans indicate a number of Red Curb fire lane designations. In addition to red
curbs, appropriate Fire Lane No Parking signs are required as per Appendix D of the CFC. [FIRE]
60. Atrium Smoke Removal System - The plans indicate a three story Atrium in one of the
buildings. Provide engineered plans and air handling calculations for the required smoke
removal system for the Atrium. [FIRE]
61. Available Water Supply to Project Site - Provide current fire flow information from the water
purveyor to indicate the maximum available water flow in gallons per minute (GPM) at a
minimum of 20 pounds per square inch (psi) residual pressure. This Information must be dated
and indicate the information is the most current information available from the water
purveyor. [FIRE]
62. Automatic Fire Sprinkler / Standpipe Systems Required - As the proposed buildings are
four or more stories in height, all of the buildings and garage areas are required to be equipped
with automatic standpipe / fire sprinkler systems. Provide plans and hydraulic calculations for
the design of these systems. The plans for these systems shall include on-site exterior standpipe
connections and interior standpipe connections in all of the buildings stairwells that need to be
included in the hydraulic calculations. The plans indicate a number of exterior standpipe
connections around the campus. The fire pumps supplying these standpipe connections are
required to be sized to provide the required total 1000 GPM flow at 125 Psi at the highest
elevation standpipe connections. [FIRE]
63. Fire Department Connections - FDC's to the fire sprinkler / standpipe systems shall be
located at the fire access side of all buildings within 50 feet of a Fire Hydrant.
