The characteristics of the housing stock, including growth, tenure, vacancy rates, age,
condition, and cost are important in determining the housing need for the community. This section
details the housing stock characteristics of Redwood City in an attempt to identify how well the current
housing stock meets the needs of the current and future residents. A continuing priority in Redwood
City is enhancing and maintaining quality of life for our residents. Quality of life in Redwood City can be
influenced by the extent of housing problems experienced, including the condition of housing,
overcrowding issues, and overpayment. In addition, broadband needs and vulnerability to natural
hazard risks.
In collaboration with the County of San Mateo, the City participates in San Mateo County Public WIFI.
This project provides the infrastructure so that all residents have equal access to online resources to
supporting the shared vision of a healthy, safe, prosperous, livable, environmentally conscious, and
collaborative community. In addition to servicing unserved and underserved communities with public
Wifi. There are currently 19 access points in Redwood City with more coming to narrow the digital
divide.
The City of Redwood City also collaborates with the County of San Mateo with the Regional Hazard Plan
for emergency response. The City of Redwood City has also integrated hazard mitigation into the
General Plan Safety Element, including specific initiatives on hazard mitigation planning updates, hazard
risks, and associated objectives.
Consolidated Plan REDWOOD CITY 69
OMB Control No: 2506-0117 (exp. 06/30/2018)
431
