6.M. - Page 8 of 9 <br />Bay to Sea Trail <br />Project Charter <br />Bay to Sea Trail Objectives: <br />Project Vision <br />The Bay to Sea Trail will be an approximately 40 -mile multiuse (hike, bike, equestrian) trail that <br />guides and connects people to open space and other regional trails in the Peninsula between the San <br />Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. <br />Core Principles <br />• Connectivity - provide regional connectivity and alternative transportation opportunities for <br />people of all ages and abilities to open space between the Bay and the Sea <br />• Improve - open space access equity; local ecology and habitat connectivity <br />• Health - support livable communities, improved health and wellness, and safe access to trails <br />• Educate - enable opportunities for curriculum and programming that builds awareness of <br />the regional values and benefits of open space and trails <br />• Celebrate - our region's unique natural beauty and cultural history, diversity and its <br />communities <br />• Economy - generate destination tourism and support the local and outdoor recreation <br />economy <br />• Collaborate - work collaboratively with partner agencies and engage communities across <br />boundaries to plan, acquire, develop and manage the Bay to Sea Trail <br />Goals <br />1. Complete the Bay to Sea Trail vision by 2037. <br />2. Bring open space experiences closer to home by connecting urban communities to open <br />space via pedestrian and bicycle -friendly options suitable for people of all ages. <br />3. Create a comprehensive (convenient, safe, efficient) multiuse trail between the San Francisco <br />Bay and the Pacific Ocean that also provides connections between community centers such <br />as transit hubs, schools, and parks. <br />4. Support livable communities by being a tool for health, wellness and outdoor education for <br />people of all ages and abilities. <br />5. Cultivate strong public/private leadership to champion the Bay to Sea Trail vision and build <br />community support for the regional trail. <br />127 <br />
