As I understand the letter, the stop sign will be for the traffic traveling on
Hopkins Ave. as they cross Allerton St.
Your letter states: "Staff assumes that increased traffic control is generally welcomed by
residents living in the area." Staff's assumptions are FALSE. I am firmly AGAINST such a
proposal for several reasons.

First of all, being a lifelong Redwood city resident, it is my observation that the
City's solution to any traffic issue is to just put up a stop light or stop sign without
full consideration to the effects or the situation. It is extremely difficult to navigate
Redwood City neighbOrhoods without having to stop every 2 blocks for a stop sign.

Second, the negative effects of a stop sign are numerous: Increased vehicle pollution,
travel time, and wear and tear on vehicles. As well as issues of speeding "in be~ween"
stop signs to make up for the lost time spent stopping.

Third, in this specific situation, there is already a stop sign one block away in
either direction of Hopkins Ave. Which means that in order to travel the 3 block length
of Hopkins in this neighborhood, you would have to stop 3 times! This is ridiculous. Add
to that the fact that this street is in a small residential neighborhood that gets little
vehicle traffic to begin with, it seems to be serious overkill to add a stop sign. I have
not heard of there being traffic accidents at the intersection, and personally have rarely
even met another car there even though I go through the intersection every day.

Other reasons include thOse mentioned in the letter of loss of parking (I live one
block away so this does not affect me personally) and noise.

To me, any "safety" gains made from this proposal are negligible, and the negative effects
are numerous. I encourage the City council to vote against this proposal.

Regard::; ,

Jeff

......"
~--_.

Resident: ...
