ORIGINAL <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN <br />REDWOOD CITY 2020, CITY OF REDWOOD CITY ACTING AS FISCAL AGENT <br />FOR REDWOOD CITY 2020. AND <br />LEGAL AID SOCIETY OF SAN MATEO COUNTY <br />LINKING IMMIGRANTS TO BENEFITS RESOURCES AND EDUCATION (LIBRE) <br />A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT OF THE LEGAL AID SOCIETY OF SAN MATEO COUNTY, REDWOOD <br />CITY 2020, NUESTRA CASA, COASTSIDE HOPE, REDWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND SAN <br />MATEO COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY <br />GENERALPURPOSE <br />This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) affirms the commitment of the <br />organizations serving on the LIBRE Steering Committee to work together to inform low-income <br />San Mateo County immigrant families and individuals about safety net services that they can <br />legally obtain; dispel misunderstandings about the impact of receiving benefits on their <br />immigration status; provide legal services to ensure that benefits are obtained; and increase <br />the community's capacity to help immigrants access safety net benefits for the period of March <br />1, 2017 through February 28, 2019. <br />OBJECTIVE <br />The objective of this MOU is: <br />A. To contract with Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County (LASSMC) to be the fiscal <br />agent between Redwood City 2020 (Partner) and the Grove Foundation, funder of this project; <br />B. For Partner to agree to coordinate planning, delivery and evaluation of LIBRE <br />project services as a member of the LIBRE Steering Committee; and <br />C. To contract with Partner to assist immigrant individuals and families to apply for <br />safety net benefits, provide education and outreach to promote its services, and refer <br />individuals and families who need legal assistance to the appropriate LIBRE partner. <br />III. STEERING COMMITTEE ROLE <br />LASSMC is a California non-profit organization that is tax exempt under Section 501(c) <br />(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and the City of Redwood City acting as fiscal agent for <br />Redwood City 2020, is a public entity and tax exempt. As a member of the LIBRE Steering <br />Committee, LASSMC and Partner will: <br />A. Provide leadership and coordination for this collaborative initiative; <br />B. Maintain the focus on the overall goals and key strategies as they are implemented <br />in target communities; <br />C. Monitor quality and consistency of service delivery; <br />D. Serve as planning and problem solving group for the initiative; <br />E.
