<br />Proclamation - <br /> <br />Sequoia High School <br /> <br />Mayor Pierce read and presented the proclamation to Principal Morgan Marchbanks <br />(also present in the audience were Superintendent Pat Gemma and School Board <br />Member Lorraine Rumley) based on their designation as a Distinguished School in the <br />State of California. Principal Marchbanks thanked Mayor Pierce and City Council for <br />their support and asked each person present, representing Sequoia to stand. <br /> <br />Presentation - National Awards for the Recycled Water Project <br /> <br />Community Development Services Director Peter Ingram introduced Public Works <br />Superintendent Justin Ezell, Supervisor Victor Palmberg, Water Systems Specialist Don <br />Nickle, and Consultant Mark Milan. He stated that they were proud to accept the <br />prestigious national WateReuse Association's 2007 Large Project of the Year Award <br />during a ceremony held September 10th at its annual WateReuse Symposium, which is <br />the premier conference devoted to water reuse education. The award was for the <br />Redwood City Recycled Water Project. This national industry awards program <br />recognizes superior water reuse, reclamation, and recycling projects across the United <br />States that advance or have made significant contributions to water reuse. He also <br />stated that Hotel Sofitel won the national customer of the year award for their pioneering <br />efforts for being the greenest and most responsible hotel in the area for pushing the <br />project to deliver water for multiple uses on site. He also stated that Mark Milan <br />received a special president's award at the national level for his work in public outreach <br />and effectively communicating and educating people about recycled water. In <br />response, each Council Member made individual remarks to thank, recognize, and <br />congratulate the staff on their hard work and on winning these awards. <br /> <br />Presentation - Human Resources Department <br /> <br />Human Resources Director Bob Bell gave a PowerPoint presentation (on file) on the <br />City of Redwood City's Human Resources Department. The presentation included <br />information on the department's core purpose, organizational structure, how it supports <br />Council priorities, workload statistics, workforce development, workers' compensation, <br />short-term and long-term objective and initiatives. <br /> <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIL! <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD <br /> <br />Linda Jolley thanked Mayor Pierce for her email regarding her stated topic of ongoing <br />police persecution of the homeless and she stated her appreciation of the Mayor's level <br />of concern. She stated that she is currently trying to help two middle-aged women who <br />are sick that have no housing or may lose their housing and that last week she phoned <br />eight shelters in the area that are all full and overflowing.
