S.R. - Page 39 of 92 <br />City Council <br />c/o City Clerk <br />1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063 <br />Redwood City <br />Dear City Council, <br />7/16/19 <br />I am writing to express my objection of the below proposals from the city for the amendments to the <br />second story ADU ordinance which would be to: <br />• Reduce maximum heights for second -story ADUs above garages from 28 ft. to 20 ft. to limit height <br />and mass and to keep units secondary to the single-family home. <br />• Limit portions of the ADU above garages to 280 square feet. <br />These proposals restrict many homeowners the ability to add a desirable living space on their property, <br />these go against the State of California's goals to solving the housing crisis through promoting ADU's. <br />Such proposal is not consistent with the housing element and does not align with housing and <br />community development nor the State of CA. <br />Such a small size and height restrictions on second story is burdensome and undesirable living space. <br />Attached is also the letter from housing and Community development dated June 5th 2019 which is <br />clearly against these proposals from city of Redwood City. <br />The city can have privacy guidelines and noticing policies like other cities to resolve and mitigate privacy <br />issues rather than coming up with such aggressive anti ADU amendment proposals to reduce the size <br />and height of the ADU. <br />I request the city council to not approve this proposal. <br />Sincerely, <br />Ratna Bhaysar <br />Resources: <br />https://www.redwoodcity.org/departments/community-development-department/planning- <br />housing/planning-services/planning-codes-development-standards/accessory-dwelling-unit-ordinance <br />https://meetings.redwoodcity.org/AgendaOnline/Documents/ViewDocument/ATTACHMENT%202%20- <br />%20HCD%20MEMO.pdf?meetingld=2024&documentType=Agenda&itemld=2243&publishld=3349&isSe <br />ction=false <br />269 <br />
