I am very pleased with the overall direction of
redwood city and the growth.
i want homeowners in the mt carmel, and elsewhere, to be able to add to their homes. Some of the recent
additions are too big for the lots. I am specifically concerned about the overall look of the street, where new
homes are expanding the footprint into the front yard, for both the first and especially the second story, for
example, the new home being built on hopkins near fulton. I would like to see limits to keep this consistent
with mount carmel neighborhood standards avoiding inching up of a two story box house redo that starts from
the sidewalk (over exaggerating to emphasize a point).
regarding retail in downtown, that's a tricky question in today's online environment. Like that we have
a butcher. Be nice to add other food providers to the downtown area, like have a segona's vegatables/fruits,
bakery, artisanal chocolates (for example christopher elbow on hayes in SF has speciality chocolates and a little
chocolate eating area), cheese, italian speciality (we have german speciality) etc. Also, the boutique laden
streets of hayes and union in SF are examples vs big box. Maybe something like antropologie replacing cost
plus
Wish chick fil a was not replacing mcdonalds on whipple. Unfortunately this company has become a political
symbol and i don't like it being the first thing you see on entering redwood city from 101. Whether the city can
or should do something here is a something that I have mixed feelings on.
best,
Arnold Friedman
30 year redwood city resident and homeowner
317
