I urge you not to
support the Interim FAR ordinance. I understand you do not want
"McMansions" but please understand a 2500 sq. ft home is far from a
"McMansion". Today's living arrangements are quite different than
previous times. As our society ages, home affordability decreases, and
diverse cultures, multi generational living becoming the norm and
therefore creating a need for larger homes.
Bedrooms for the grandparents, mom, dad, live in help, guests and two
kids plus possibly more family members a 4- or 5 -bedroom home is a
necessity. I am real estate, I notice young married couples are living with
parents to save money and sometimes for ease of day care. A 2500 sq. ft.
home does not allow for good size bedrooms and 3-4 baths. Then we also
have the younger generation needing a home office to help cut down on
street traffic they work from home a few days a week. Due to the high
cost of housing, I am seeing a trend of two families purchasing a larger
home together. So, add in 4-5 bedrooms, 3-4 baths, a kitchen, dining
room, a family room and a 2500 sq. ft. home is becoming very
cramped.
I understand change is tough to handle especially as one gets older.
Larger remodeled homes are not an eyesore by any means. It may take a
355
