My other big concern is the trees. Our neighborhood has many large old trees. Generally, builders want to cut <br />trees down because it's more complicated and expensive to work around them than to get rid of them. I used to <br />live in Palo Alto, and many times builders would chop down trees and pay the fine (`oops, sorry, didn't get a <br />permit') because this was cheaper than working around the trees. Of course, they have to plant replacement <br />trees but those take forever to grow (a builder is certainly not going to plant a tree anywhere close to the size of <br />what they got rid of). The large old trees provide much needed shade and keep the air cleaner, as you know. <br />They are a great resource for the city and its residents. <br />Anything you can do to preserve the charm of the old neighborhoods is much appreciated.
