8.A. - Page 13 of 15
CD -Lindy Chan
Subject: FW: South Main Mixed -Use Project - Notice of Study Session
From: Philip Vitorino
Sent: Monday, September 02, 2019 3:48 PM
To: CD -Lindy Chan <Ichan@redwoodcity.org>
Subject: Re: South Main Mixed -Use Project - Notice of Study Session
Thank you Lindy.
We will be out of town during the meeting. I previously sent feedback to some council members, but I will
reiterate some thoughts here since I cannot attend the meeting in person.
This southern portion of downtown is currently in an unfortunate state. Given the size and vibrancy of our city,
I think redevelopment of surface lots and empty spaces is a huge win for our community. I rely and trust the
EIR to determine impacts of project on traffic: however, in my opinion it's not whether we should develop but
how we should develop. We should consider this proposal by Greystar as a unique opportunity to dramatically
improve an underutilized area close to public transport and our booming downtown. I feel the developers have
done a decent job reaching out to the community and soliciting feedback. We should take EIR info into account
but look for ways to compromise with Greystar to build something that benefits the city and still remains
profitable for the organization.
I think the proposals inclusion of affordable housing on another part of el Camino is a double win to increase
critical housing stock while also improving a underutilized parcel on a main thoroughfare. The el Camino
improvement will also get us closer to stated vision in the El Camino corridor plan.
The exact building heights, square footage, and the office to housing ratio is something to be debated based on
EIR, but I earnestly hope we take advantage of this chance to beautify and improve this southern gateway to our
downtown.
Best
Phil Vitorino.
On Fri, Aug 30, 2019 at 5:23 PM CD -Lindy Chan <lchankredwoodcity.org> wrote:
You are receiving this email as you have expressed interest in the South Main Mixed -Use Project.
139
