Please forward to the City Council members for their
consideration. Thank you.
Dear Mayor Bain and Council Members:
I live in Friendly Acres in a permitted parking area and am 100% in favor of permitted parking. Since the
program was started here street parking has significantly cleared up. Most of the neighbors I know are very
happy with it. This program has changed how we think about parking. Everyone has taken free street parking
for granted in the past, but no more. Neighbors that sell cars and neighbors that repair cars are now scrambling
to find places for their vehicles and I say good riddance to all those extra cars!
The only complaint I have is that the program is only in effect from 7:00a to 6:00pm, Monday through
Friday. Many neighbors bring their multiple cars back for the evening and weekends. I would like to see the
program in force 24/7.
With "in-law" units becoming more popular and with more people living in smaller places because of the
housing shortage, there is just no way that we can sustain free public parking without any restrictions. The
math just doesn't work. Having permitted parking forces residents to re -think their behaviors. Many people
have multiple cars that are stored on our streets. They never had to worry about these before, but now they will
be forced to re -think holding onto all their cars. It's not just a matter of parking. It's a matter of safety as
well. Too many cars jammed onto the public streets mean less visiblity for bicycle riders and pedestrians.
I urge you to consider all of the code changes to the parking permit program.
Thank you.
Joan Ira
3048 Page St
Redwood City, CA
