I am writing to you on behalf of the members of the Peninsula Builders Exchange. We are a member run, non-
profit association serving the construction industry. Our organization has several hundred member businesses
in San Mateo County. We have been serving the industry in this county since 1945.
We oppose adoption of the Reach Code by Redwood City for the following reasons:
1. Piecemeal adoption by local jurisdiction creates a regulatory compliance nightmare for contractors. It
should be done on the State level.
2. The adoption is premature. Over 50% of California's electricity is still generated by fossil and nuclear
fuels.
Premature adoption will increase the cost of housing and cause the state government to take zoning
authority away from local government.
I have attached our position statement in .pdf format. It contains more information and gives our reasons for
opposing local code adoption. Please take a moment to read it.
Sincerely,
Tom McGinley
Executive Director
Peninsula Builders Exchange
650-591-4486
