6.C. - Page 1 of 35 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: September 23, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Response to Civil Grand Jury Report: "FIRE SAFETY INSPECTION PROGRAMS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY" <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve the City's response to the July 22, 2019 Grand Jury Report entitled "FIRE SAFETY <br />INSPECTION PROGRAMS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY" and authorize the Mayor to execute and transmit <br />the response provided in Attachment A. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />On July 22, 2019, the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury filed a report containing findings and <br />recommendations regarding the annual fire safety inspections of all schools, hotels, motels, apartments, <br />and condominiums performed by the ten fire departments and districts within San Mateo County. <br />Additionally the report evaluates whether the ten fire departments and districts are ready to report to <br />their administering authorities the result of these inspections as required by SB 1205, codified as California <br />Health & Safety Code Section 13146.4. As one of the agencies affected by the Grand Jury Report, the City <br />of Redwood City is required to prepare a response to the findings and recommendations, consider the <br />response at a public meeting, and submit the response by October 20, 2019. <br />California state law requires that all fire departments and districts in the state conduct annual safety <br />inspections of all public and private schools, apartments, condominiums, hotels and motels within their <br />jurisdiction.
