Participating in and contributing to re iog nal programs to promote <br />economic development, health and air quality, and conservation The New General <br />Plan contains numerous policies and programs to encourage and facilitate the City's <br />participation in regional programs that would promote the economic development and <br />improve the quality of life in the City. (See pp. BE -94 to BE -95, BE -156 to BE -159, BE- <br />192 to BE -193, BE -216, BE -242 to BE -243, H -180 to H -181, BC -83 and PS -85) The <br />City and its residents benefit, both directly and indirectly, from regional plans and <br />programs prepared and conducted by regional agencies such as the Association of Bay <br />Area Governments (ABAG), the Bay Area Air Quality Management District <br />(BAAQMD), the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the Bay Conservation <br />and Development Commission (BCDC), and the City /County Association of <br />Governments of San Mateo County. These programs include the FOCUS program, led <br />by ABAG and supported by the MTC, BAAQMD, and the BCDC, pursuant to which <br />Redwood City has been designated as a "Priority Development Area "; BAAQMD's <br />CARE program, which has identified portions of Redwood City as eligible for grants <br />and incentives to improve air quality and reduce risks associated with air emissions; and <br />the BCDC's Bay Plan and Seaport Plan, which provides guidance to the City relating to <br />development of the Port of Redwood City and other bayfront development. Participating <br />in these various programs and cooperating with these and other agencies provides various <br />benefits to the City, which may take the form of economic development incentives, <br />improved health care, support and assistance relating to issues involving the Port of <br />Redwood City and the City's bayfront properties, and an improved quality of life in <br />Redwood City. <br />ATTY /RESO /RESO.2055 /ATTACHMENT1.A 42 #15059 <br />10/13/10 MUFF # 601 <br />
