The proposed Building Codes and Plumbing Code will require the
implementation of water conservation measures, reducing the effects of a drought. The
proposed Building Codes will reduce the potential for spread of fire during these hot and
dry periods.
Geological 1 - The region is located in an area of high seismic activities as indicated by
United States Geological Survey and California Division of Mines and Geology. Recent
earthquake activities have indicated the lack of adequate design and detailing as a
contributing factor to damages that reduced the protection of the life- safety of building
occupants and increased the cost of rehabilitation of structures.
Geological 2 — Redwood City has an area underlain with Younger Bay Mud which is
corrosive to metallic piping systems.
The City Council of the City of Redwood City hereby makes a finding of necessity
as set forth in Section 1.1.8 of the California Building Code and California Health and
Safety Code Sections 17958.5 and 17958.7 for the code amendments listed in
Redwood City Code Sections 9.43, 9.44, 9.45, 9.73, 9.83, 9.84, 9.92, 9.93 (Climatic 1,
Geological 1), Sections 9.119, 9.120. 9.121, 9.122, 9.123, 9.124, 9.139 (Geological 2),
Sections 9.149, 9.153 (Geological 1).
ATTY /RES0/RESO.2076
112910
#15069
MUFF #305
3
