01/10/2011 <br /> Funeral leave applies only in instances in which the employee attends the <br /> funeral, or is required to make funeral arrangements, but is not applicable for <br /> other purposes such as settling the estate of the decreased. <br /> 18.12 Leave for Union Business <br /> Any employee who shall hereafter be elected or officially appointed to a full- <br /> time paid position in the Union, which position requires absence from the City's <br /> service, shall be granted a leave of absence therefor, and upon retirement from <br /> such position, shall be reinstated; provided, however, that such leave of <br /> absence shall not extend beyond the term of this MOU, unless extended by <br /> mutual consent. <br /> All IAFF members will contribute two (2) hours of accumulated vacation leave <br /> per year, beginning with the later of the first pay date after January 1, 2011 or <br /> within 30 days of contract ratification and Council approval of an agreement, <br /> and each first pay date in January thereafter, for use by their union president, <br /> or his /her designee, for union business leave. <br /> 18.13 Absence Without Leave <br /> Failure on the part of an employee to report for duty or notify the designated <br /> management official prior to the employee's scheduled starting time as to a <br /> reason why the employee cannot report may subject the employee to <br /> disciplinary action by the City. <br /> 18.14 Family and Medical Leave Act <br /> 18.14.1 In accordance with the California Family Rights Act of 1991 and the <br /> Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, regular part-time and full - <br /> time employees with more than one (1) year or more of service are <br /> entitled to a maximum of twelve (12 weeks of unpaid leave in a <br /> twelve (12) month period: <br /> 18.14.1.1 to care for a child following a birth or placement of a <br /> child with the employee for adoption or foster care. <br /> 18.14.1.2 to care for the spouse, child or parent of the <br /> employee who has a serious health condition. <br /> 18.14.1.3 if the employee is unable to perform his /her job <br /> because of the employee's own serious health <br /> condition. <br /> 18.14.2 When an employee desires leave for the above stated reasons, the <br /> employee should give thirty (30) calendar days' written advance <br /> notice to his /her supervisor (or if the event is unforeseeable, <br /> employee should give as much notice as possible.) <br /> 41 <br /> Page 47 #15077 <br /> MUFF #905 <br />
