03/25/2013 <br /> ATTACHMENT 1: <br /> AMENDED CLASSIFICATION <br /> CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Under general direction of the Department Head or his/her designee, this position <br /> directs the activities of a major operating function (Fleet and Facilities, Right-Of- <br /> Way Maintenance, Utilities) in the Public Works division of the Community <br /> Development Department. The incumbent may be assigned by the Department <br /> Head or his or her designee to any one of the designated functions within this <br /> classification. <br /> Plans, organizes, and directs the operations and activities for designated function. <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> General direction is provided by the Department Head or his/her designee. <br /> Responsibilities include direct and indirect supervision of supervisory, technical, and <br /> office personnel for assigned division. <br /> EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, <br /> but are not limited to, the following: <br /> 1. Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities. <br /> 2. Plan, organize, supervise, review, and evaluate operations, programs and <br /> assigned projects for assigned section. <br /> 3. Approve and direct implementation of specific activities, projects, plans, and <br /> procedures prepared by staff. <br /> 4. Give instructions in proper work procedures, resolve work problems, <br /> interpret administrative policies, and determine the best approach to <br /> accomplish work objectives. <br /> 5. Plan, schedule, prepare, supervise, and monitor the division budget. <br /> 6. Requisition supplies and equipment as needed. <br /> 7. Develop and implement systems, programs and procedures. <br /> 8. Coordinate section activities with other City departments and divisions and <br /> with outside agencies, and respond to citizen inquiries. <br /> 1 <br />
