09/12/2016 <br /> • Median islands <br /> • Tr�c circlea <br /> • Serpentine atreets,chicanes <br /> • Speed tables and raised cxosswalks <br /> • Speed humps <br /> • Turn prohibition signs <br /> • Diagonal diverters,forced hun channelization,median barriers <br /> GOALS and OBJECTIVES <br /> The goal of the City of Redwood City's Residential traffic calming Program is to establiah <br /> procedurea to facilitate installation of tr�c calming and measwea that will enhance the quality of <br /> life in tlie City's neighborhoods by mitigating die negative impacts af vehicular tr�c on residential <br /> streets. <br /> Objectives <br /> • To promote safe and pleasant conditions for people who live, wallc, bike, and drive on <br /> neighborhood atreets <br /> • To reduce the average speed of traffic on local neighborhood stre�s <br /> • To reduce the amount of cut-tlu�ough traffic on local neighborhood streexs <br /> • To preserve and enhance wallang and b�cing acceas to neighborhood destinations <br /> • To facilitate resident involvement in neighborhood tr�c management activities <br /> • To provide a process to prioritize neighborhood h�aff'ic calming requests <br /> Policies <br /> • Through-tr�c should be routed to the major roadways,whenevef poasible <br /> • The amount of rerouted traffic that ia acceptable as a reault of a traffic calsning project ahould <br /> be def'med on a project-by-project basis <br /> • Emergency vehicie access must be preserved <br /> • Each Traffic calming measure will be planned and designed in conformance with sound <br /> engineering and planning practicee <br /> • Uniform procedurea will be followed in the procesaing and prioritization of neighborhood <br /> tr�c calming requests <br /> TRAFFIC CALMING GUIDELINES <br /> Engineering Study <br /> Traffic calming measure�should only be installed where an engineering study concludes that: <br /> • Traffic calming installations can address speeding or cut-through traffic; <br /> • 7udicious use of other guide,waming or regulatory control devices has been conxidered but <br /> does not address the isaues; <br /> • A reasonable level of enforcement has not solved or appears unlikely to solve the problem, <br /> or a necessary level of enforccment ia unlikely t4 be made available;and <br /> • Key design guidelines,as outlined herein for loca6on,placement, configuration details,and <br /> related street and iraffic conditions, can be reasonably conforrned to at the xite under <br /> consideration. <br /> • The study location meets a combinaUon of the following eligibility measures.
