01/09/2017 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 15552 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY COMMITTING TO CONTINUE WORKING WITH OTHER <br />JURISDICTIONS IN SAN MATEO COUNTY TO ADDRESS HOUSING <br />ISSUES ON A REGIONAL BASIS, INCLUDING THROUGH ONGOING <br />SUPPORT OF THE HOME FOR ALL SAN MATEO COUNTY INITIATIVE <br />WHEREAS, San Mateo County is facing an historic housing crisis that has <br />resulted in some of the highest housing costs in the country; and <br />WHEREAS, as of March 2016, the average price to purchase a single family <br />home in San Mateo County is over one and a half million dollars and the average <br />monthly rent for a two bedroom apartment is nearly two thousand nine hundred dollars; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, between 2010 and 2014, San Mateo County added over 54,000 new <br />jobs while only 2,148 new housing units were built in the County; and <br />WHEREAS, local government jurisdictions within the County have long <br />collaborated to address, on a regional basis, housing challenges through, for example, <br />the creation, in 2003, of a housing endowment and regional trust, known as HEART of <br />San Mateo County, and the development, in 2006, of a sub -regional process for <br />regional housing needs allocations for all 20 cities and towns, and the unincorporated <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, building upon this regional approach to addressing housing issues, <br />in September 2015, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors convened a task force <br />of community leaders to identify housing issues, evaluate innovative tools and best <br />practices, and create a menu of solutions to preserve and increase housing at all <br />income levels; and <br />WHEREAS, this Closing the Jobs -Housing Gap Task Force is co-chaired by <br />Supervisors Don Horsley and Warren Slocum, and includes representatives from cities <br />and towns, business organizations and large employers, educators, housing <br />developers, community-based organizations providing housing services and labor and <br />community advocates; and <br />ATTY/RESO.0126/CC RESO HOME FOR ALL—SAN MATEO COUNTY RESO.
