REDWOOD CITY EL CAMINO REAL CORRIDOR PLAN
A-2
PROCESS
PROJECT PHASES
The El Camino Real Corridor Plan was developed in three
major phases, beginning in late 2015:
1. Background Research established the baseline condi-
tions and community priorities for the Corridor.
2. Concepts and Options presented numerous preliminary
ideas and solutions for the Corridor that responded to the
issues identified in the first phase and asked the community
for input and preferences.
3. Draft Plan took the preferred concepts and strategies
and developed the ideas into a cohesive and accessible plan
for the Corridor.
OUTREACH EFFORTS
Throughout each phase of the project, Redwood City com-
munity members were asked to share their ideas and pro-
vide feedback on options and strategies as the Corridor Plan
was developed. Opportunities for public input included:
• Citizen Advisory Group meetings held periodically
throughout the process (total meetings: 6)
• Stakeholder interviews (34 interviewed in September
2016, representing neighborhood groups, members
of the real estate community, business organizations,
transportation agencies, institutions, bicycle advocates,
property owners, small business owners, housing advo-
cates, and others)
• Two community workshops
#1: Community Vision and Planning Issues (November
2016)
#2: Concepts and Options (March 2017)
• Online surveys
#1: Transit Survey – focused on the transit station but
included numerous questions specifically about El
Camino Real (November/December 2016)
#2: El Camino Real Options Survey (May 2017)
• Check-ins with Planning Commission, Complete Streets
Advisory Committee, and Youth & Teen Advisory Board
(March/April 2017)
• Booth at farmers’ market and other community events
(Spring 2017)
• Direct, in-person outreach to businesses on the Corridor
(Spring 2017)
• Additional check-ins with Downtown Business Group,
Chamber of Commerce (March/April 2017)
• Meetings with Caltrans, Samtrans, Caltrain, San Mateo
County, other agencies (Spring 2017)
