APPENDIX A <br />INFORMATION ABOUT REDWOOD CITY'S <br />WASTEWATER SYSTEM <br />City of Redwood City <br />The City of Redwood City (the "City") is located in the northern part of Silicon Valley, <br />approximately 25 miles south of San Francisco, roughly midway between San Francisco and San <br />Jose. The City is the county seat of San Mateo County. The City's economy is well diversified, with <br />a strong industrial and commercial base, including many "high-tech" companies such as Oracle <br />Corporation. The City encompasses approximately 19 square miles within its corporate limits and <br />has a population of approximately 85,601. <br />Form of Government <br />The City was incorporated in 1867 and became a charter city in 1929, under the charter <br />laws of the State of California. The City is governed by a seven -member City Council whose <br />members are elected at large to staggered terms of four years. The City Council selects a mayor <br />from among its members. The City Council appoints <br />a City Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the City. <br />The City Manager is Melissa Stevenson Diaz, and the Director of the Public Works Services <br />Department is Ramana Chinnakotla. <br />City Leadership <br />Melissa Stevenson Diaz, City Manager. Melissa Stevenson Diaz has over 26 years of <br />local government leadership experience in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to becoming City <br />Manager of Redwood City, Ms. Diaz served as both Assistant City Manager and Interim City <br />Manager for the City of Mountain View. She previously held various leadership roles in the cities of <br />Fremont and Morgan Hill, and was responsible for a wide range of functions including human <br />resources, finance and budget, policy analysis, redevelopment and economic development, <br />information technology management, community engagement and communications. Ms. Diaz is a <br />member of the International City/County Management Association, the California Public Employers <br />Labor Relations Association, and the Urban Land Institute. She holds a Masters of Public <br />Administration from San Jose State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Mills College. <br />A-1 <br />
