07/23/2018 <br />WHEREAS, if enacted, the measure would protect the safety of Redwood City <br />residents by maintaining rapid 911 emergency response times and supporting fire, <br />paramedic and police services; and <br />WHEREAS, if enacted, the measure would also provide recreation and after <br />school programs for local children and continue library hours and programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the measure would not affect essential purchases like groceries and <br />medicine as these are exempt from sales tax; and <br />WHEREAS, the measure would apply to visitors who shop in the City, ensuring <br />that they pay their fair share for their impact on our streets, roads and utilization of other <br />city services; and <br />WHEREAS, the measure will maintain the City's commitment to transparency <br />and fiscal accountability, with all funds raised by the measure being subject to <br />independent audits and public review; and <br />WHEREAS, the State cannot take one penny of the measure, giving residents <br />local control over local funds for local needs. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The City Council of Redwood City, <br />subject to voter approval, finds that all Recitals are true and correct and are <br />incorporated herein by reference. <br />SECTION 2. Amendment of Municipal Code. Chapter 32, Article XI, <br />Transactions and Use Tax, of the Redwood City Municipal Code is hereby added to <br />read as follows: <br />ARTICLE XI. TRANSACTION AND USE TAX <br />Sec. 32.901. - Title. <br />This ordinance shall be known as the Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance. The City of <br />Redwood City hereinafter shall be called "City." This ordinance shall be applicable in <br />the incorporated territory of the City. <br />Sec. 32.902. - Operative Date. <br />"Operative Date" means the first day of the first calendar quarter commencing more <br />than 110 days after the adoption of this ordinance, the date of such adoption being as <br />set forth below. <br />Sec. 32.903. - Purpose. <br />ATTY/RESO.0075/CC RESO ELECTION — SALES TAX <br />REV: 07-19-18 VR <br />Page 6 of 13 <br />RESO.
