2/12/01 <br />0R I0I PIA L <br />Resolution No. 14143 <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING FUNDS FOR THE URBAN FORESTRY GRANT <br />PROGRAM AS PROVIDED THROUGHT THE CALIFORNIA TREES FOR <br />THE MILLENNIUM INITIATIVE FUNDED THROUGH THE FOREST <br />RESOURCE IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE MONTHLY COMMUNITY <br />TREE PLANTING EVENTS PROJECT <br />WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California in cooperation with the California <br />State Legislature has enacted the California Trees for the Millennium Initiative for 1999, which <br />provides funds to the State of California and its political subdivisions for urban forestry <br />programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has been delegated <br />the responsibility for the administration of the program within the State, setting up the necessary <br />procedures governing application by local agencies and non - profit organizations under the <br />program, and <br />WHEREAS, said procedures established by the State Department of Forestry and Fire <br />Protection require the applicant to certify by resolution the approval of application before <br />submission of said application to the State; and <br />WHEREAS, said procedures established by the State Department of Forestry and Fire <br />Protection require the applicant to certify by resolution the approval of application before <br />submission of said application to the State; and <br />WHEREAS, the application will enter into an agreement with the State of California to <br />carry out a tree planting project; and <br />WHEREAS, the said project will synergize the non - profit group CityTrees with <br />neighborhood associations and City staff for the betterment of the urban forest by collectively <br />planting trees; <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br />1) Approved the filing of an application for the 'Trees for the Millennium" tree planting grant <br />program, Monthly Community Tree Planting Events project; and, <br />2) Certifies that said applicant has or will have sufficient funds to operate and maintain the <br />project; and, <br />3) Certifies that funds under the jurisdiction of the City Council of the City of Redwood City <br />are available to begin the project; and, <br />4) Certifies that the applicant will expend grant funds prior to March 1, 2003; and, <br />5) Appoints Gordon Mann, Public Works Superintendent, as the agent of the City of <br />Redwood City to conduct all negotiations, execute and submit all documents including, <br />but not limited to applications, agreements, amendments, payment requests, and other <br />documents which may be necessary for the completion of the aforementioned project. <br />Reso -1078 <br />F: /Shared /Redwood/Council <br />02/01/01 <br />
