<br />08/04/2008 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14883 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA REQUESTING THE BOARD OF <br />SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO TO <br />CONSOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE <br />HELD ON NOVEMBER 4, 2008, WITH THE STATEWIDE <br />GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE DATE PURSUANT <br />TO SECTION 10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Redwood City called a Special <br />Municipal Election to be held on November 4, 2008, for the purpose of submitting <br />two proposed City Charter amendments to the voters; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is submitting to the voters the question <br />relating to an initiative measure proposing to amend Redwood City's Charter to <br />require two-thirds voter approval of future land uses other than agriculture, public <br />parks, restored wetlands, or certain extractions from San Francisco Bay in <br />certain designated areas of the City that was circulated with the title "A City <br />Charter Amendment Requiring Two-Thirds Vote of the City Voters to Change the <br />General Plan Designation or Zoning Ordinance Uses for Certain Lands in the <br />City, (the "Two-Thirds Vote Amendment"); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is submitting to the voters the question <br />relating to a City Council measure proposing to amend Redwood City's charter to <br />require majority approval for future development of the Cargill Lands, consisting <br />of approximately 1,450 acres east of Highway 101 and south of Seaport <br />Boulevard, "The Voter Approval Requirement Regarding Future Development of <br />Cargill Lands, ( the "Majority Vote Amendment"); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Municipal Election be <br />consolidated with the Statewide General election to be held on the same date <br />and that within the city the precincts, polling places and election officers of the <br />two elections be the same, and that the County Election Department of the <br />County of San Mateo canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election and <br />that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Article XI, Section 3 of the California Constitution, <br />a proposed amendment to a city's charter may be adopted by majority vote of its <br />electors voting on the question; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />A TTY/RESO/RESO.1829 <br />080608 <br /> <br />14883 <br />Muff #308 <br />
