Compact <br />PREAMBLE <br />ATTACHMENT 3 <br />We, as signatories of this Bay Area Climate Change Compact, recognize the need for immediate, <br />coordinated and visionary action on greenhouse gas reductions and progress toward a sustainable <br />society that is resilient to climate change. Further, we: <br />• Fully support the state of California's climate change goals set forth in the AB 32 Global <br />Warming Solutions Act and Executive Order# S -3 -05 (2000 levels by 2010, 1990 levels by <br />2020, 80% below 1990 by 2050); <br />• Have each established our respective municipal, agency, and organizational goals and <br />programs; <br />• Recognize that the challenges we face are regional in nature and can best be addressed in <br />partnership; <br />• Will strive to enable and expand the environmental, economic, and equity benefits of climate <br />action; <br />• Will commit leadership resources to work together in order to realize our shared vision. <br />PURPOSE <br />We are committed to creating a public - private identity that best serves our region and all of its <br />municipalities, institutions, and communities in helping to meet the state of California's goals for <br />reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We are also dedicated to helping Bay Area communities <br />prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change. <br />VISION <br />Our vision is to enable a healthy, safe and globally competitive Bay Area through collaborative action <br />on climate change. Our coordinated efforts will be a model for regional action in California, the <br />nation, and the world. <br />LEADERSHIP CALL. To ACTION <br />We will promote our vision through various channels of action, including public policy, education, <br />market shifts and behavioral change. Our approach will evolve over time. We challenge the region to <br />join us in our efforts. <br />We will work together to advance: <br />A sustainable built environment, encompassing buildings, public spaces, waste reduction <br />and resilience to climate change, including sea level rise; <br />• Models of planning and development that reduce the region's carbon footprint; <br />• Economic opportunity and innovation that makes possible green jobs, provides workforce <br />training and education, and enables cutting -edge research and development; <br />• Renewable energy choices that decrease reliance on carbon - intensive fuels; <br />• Transportation and commuting choices that improve our quality of life; <br />• Constructive legislation at the local, state, and federal level; and <br />• Increase the volume of waste products diverted from landfills. <br />#14974 <br />MUFF # 2d5 <br />Bay Area Chimate Collaborative <br />
