12/14/2009 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14987 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY ADOPTING THE SCHEDULE OF FEES <br />RELATED TO EVENTS AT COURTHOUSE SQUARE <br />WHEREAS, the Courthouse Square is a unique community asset and <br />gathering place for the benefit of all of the residents in San Mateo County and <br />shall be used solely as a public plaza according to the Cooperative Agreement <br />between the County of San Mateo and the City of Redwood City for Preservation <br />of the Historic County Courthouse Block, Removal of the South Annex, <br />Reconstruction of the Courthouse Facade and Creation of Courthouse Plaza, and <br />Grant of Easement and License, May 3, 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City ( "City ") has the authority to manage <br />and operate Courthouse Square; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's existing Municipal Code does not currently enable <br />the City to recover costs associated with planning, permitting, securing and <br />otherwise regulating events at Courthouse Square; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Ordinance governing the use of Courthouse <br />Square set forth in Chapter 33A Article III of the Redwood City Municipal Code <br />allows the City to establish a fee structure for events and activities that require City <br />services; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Schedule of Fees allows the City to recover <br />costs associated with the departmental review and permitting process for special <br />events at Courthouse Square; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Ordinance set forth in Chapter 33A Article III of <br />the Redwood City Municipal Code and the City's Administrative Guidelines for <br />Courthouse Square require a permittee, under certain circumstances, to pay the <br />City's departmental service charge so that the City may recover costs associated <br />with supporting events; and <br />WHEREAS, the City wants to ensure that permit applicants bear their share <br />of the cost of public services required to support special events at Courthouse <br />Square, including the associated costs and resources necessary to process the <br />permit and to support, clean up and repair City- operated facilities of Courthouse <br />Square. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br />ATTY /RESO /RESO.1966 14987 <br />120809 MUFF # 305 <br />
