<br />rf .. <br /> <br />; AUGUST 1980 <br /> <br />PIRE PROTECTION ENGTNEI~R <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision, to inspect fire safety systems for conformance with <br />codified safety standards; insures conformance with fire safety stan- <br />dards and approved plans in new construction, alterations and cxisti11g <br />facilities; does related work as r0quired. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Reviews building construction plans and records; plans for and condllcts <br />field inspections of residential and commercial facilities to assess <br />conformity with fire safety and other codes and ordinances and nlakes <br />recommendations for improvement; reviews,conducts field inspections Zlnd <br />assesses operational analysis of automatic fire suppression and dctcclioll <br />systems; coordinates building plan review with other orof0ssionCll CnQi:lc<'r-:; <br />and inspection personnel; provides technical advice to othc'r depar-tmcnts <br />for permit approval of various processes and installati( ns; pl~epares in.! <br />presents fire prevention training to the public; explains dcsiqn and <br />engineering problems to the public and suggests methods for improvement of <br />plans and for compliance with applicable regulations and codes; pdt'ticip~lL(_' <br />in training programs for fire fighting personnal and the con-ununi ty; ass Lst s <br />inspection personnel .in fire prevention inspections and makes recommenda- <br />tions for the resolution of fire prevention problems; prepares dnd l:i;1i n ",a in <br />a variety of complex reports and records; reviews City regulations n(l <br />ordinances and recornmends changes '.\Then n(~ccssary. <br /> <br />REQ~IREQ2_~_O~lLEDGE ~SKI_~LS ~~D _ ABII:_l~~.~i~_ <br /> <br />Considerable knowledge of fire prevention practices and principles; goocl <br />knowledge of fire hazards related to a variety of industrial, com~ercial <br />and residential facilities; good knowledge of pertinent ordinances, rcgl]I~- <br />tions and codes relating to fire and life safety; ability to inspect <br />building and construction plans; ability to identify and correct doficicrlC( <br />in fire safety preparations and obtain necessary results in stressful <br />situations; ability to establish and maintain effective workin(J relation- <br />ships with City employees and the public; ability to present facts and <br />recommendations effective in oral and written form. <br /> <br />I\.CCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAIN ING <br /> <br />Four years of responsible professional engineering experience in fire <br />protection design or review and gradtlation from an accredited four yc~r <br />college with a degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Fire Protection <br />Engineering. <br /> <br />Eligibility for registration in California as a professional F.P.E. lS <br />desirable. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
