<br />~CITr OF REDWOOD CITY <br />_ OcTOBER 1980 <br /> <br />DATA SYSTill4S MANAGER <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Finance, manages operations <br />and development work associated with the City's computer system. The <br />position works extensively with management in design, development and <br />implementation of application programs on the computer. <br /> <br />EXM{PLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Plan, coordinate and implement application programs for computer; manage <br />and monitor daily operation of computer; administer contracts with various <br />data processing contractors or consultants; work closely with management <br />in proposing program development priorities and implementing them; supervise <br />data processing staff; prepare budget for data processing division; conduct <br />analysis of need for data processing equipment, packaged software programs <br />and related data processing services; design and write computer programs <br />or modifications to existing programs. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEGE AND SKILLS <br /> <br />Extensive knowledge and experience in data processing systems design and. <br />management information systems; some experience in computer programming; <br />skill in systems analysis techniques; demonstrated ability to work with <br />other managers in a team setting; experience in supervising line employees; <br />experience in municipal data processing department or in an administrative <br />position dealing with information and systems design work in an operating <br />department; familiarity with computer equipment and software; ability to <br />train personnel in programming for an operation of data equipment. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Graduation from accredited college with a degree in Business or Public <br />Administration, Computer Sciences, or related field. Two years increasingly <br />responsible experience in information systems design, administration and <br />implementation including experience supervising line employees. <br /> <br />"Exhibit A" <br />
