<br />CITY OF REDWOOD CI <br />July 1981 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Supervises crews and employees engaged in water, street and sewer <br />installation, maintenance and repair projects; does related work <br />as required. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Illustrative only) <br /> <br />Plans, directs and coordinates the work of Public Works employees in <br />water, street, sidewalk, sanitary and storm sewer maintenance, repair <br />and installation construction; inspects work in progress to insure <br />conformance with instructions; makes and adjusts work assignments; <br />requisitions necessary equipment and materials; maintains time and <br />materials records; prepares work reports and cost records; trains and <br />instructs subordinates; recommends and enforces safety requirements; <br />investigates complaints and suggests corrective actions; studies <br />maintenance functions and recommends improvements; interviews sub- <br />ordinates at various phases of the work and gives them specific <br />orders, discusses work progress and ascertains the amount of materials <br />and supplies needed; prepares budget estimates and other requested <br />reports; evaluates subordinates performance and prepares required <br />reports. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in public <br />works construction projects; good knowledge of the occupational hazards <br />and safety precautions of the work; good knowledge of the principles <br />and techniques of supervision and training; ability to supervise the <br />work of skilled, semiskilled and unskilled employees; ability to <br />communicate effectively with superviors and subordinates and the public; <br />ability to write effective reports and follow written and oral instruc- <br />tions; ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifica- <br />tions; ability to develop working plans and coordinate maintenance <br />projects; good physical condition. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Considerable experience in public works construction and maintenance <br />activities including some supervisory experience and completion of <br />the twelfth grade or any equivalent combination of experience and <br />training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
