<br />City of Redwood City <br />July 1981. <br /> <br />ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Performs subprofessinal engineering work in the office and field; <br />does related work as required. <br /> <br />EXAHPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) <br /> <br />Draws charts, graphs, posters and other visual media to assist in <br />presentations; does lettering and civil drafting, assists in design- <br />ing and drawing sewer and water service plans; researches property <br />ownership; prepares legal descriptions7 assists in filing maps; <br />assists in updating scale maps and plans; answers inquiries from <br />the public and other departments concerning information recorded on <br />maps an5 plats, such as addresses, and street, water and sewer <br />line locations; operates machines producing engineering prints from <br />prepared originals; compiles and sorts field sheets onto forms for <br />data processing and other records; flags and directs traffic when <br />the surveying crew works on right-of-ways;marks stakes to indicate <br />proper stationing, line and grade; drives stakes; acts as chainer <br />in establishing accurate distances along the survey center line; <br />assists on level or transit work; keeps field notes of survey data; <br />assists in plotting or drafting maps; adds new roads and subdivisions <br />to index maps; prepares diagrams showing traffic flow; obtains and <br />organizes data concerning accidents on streets and highways; drives <br />an automobile or truck. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Some knowledge of engineering practices, field surveys and civil <br />drafting; good knowledge of elementary mathematics; skill in the use <br />of basic drafting tools; ability to prepare drawings from field notes <br />and plats of record; ability to understand and follow oral and written <br />directions; ability to communicate orally and in writing with the <br />public; willingness and aptitude for subprofessional engineering work; <br />physical ability to work out-of-doors under adverse conditions. <br /> <br />ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br /> <br />Some experience in practical engineering work and completion of a <br />standard high school course; supplemented by study in surveying and <br />or drafting; or any equivalent combination of experience and training <br />which provides the required knowledge, ski lIs and abilities. Posses- <br />sion of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State <br />of California. <br /> <br />"EXHIBIT A" <br />
