<br />DES:mf 9/14/82 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N N o. <br /> <br />9223 <br /> <br />ORrG1NAl <br /> <br />RESOLUTION URGING SUPPORT OF LOCAL MEASURE A, <br />NOVEMBER 1982 STATE-WIDE ELECTION, RELATING TO <br />THE FINANCIAL VIABILITY OF THE SAN MATEO COUNTY <br />MOSQUITO ABATEMENT DISTRICT <br /> <br />SEP 1 3 1982 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement District <br /> <br />has established a commendable record of effective mosquito <br /> <br />control and prudent fiscal management; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the District has protected the public health and <br /> <br />well-being of the residents of the City of Redwood City through <br /> <br />control of pest and vector mosquitoes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a thirty-five percent loss of revenue and a thirty <br /> <br />percent loss in personnel has severely affected the District's <br /> <br />ability adequately to control mosquitoes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, mosquitoes, in addition to being severe pest <br /> <br />nuisances are capable of transmitting such serious diseases as <br /> <br />encephalitis, malaria and canine heartworm to man and domestic <br /> <br />animals; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the District has placed a special tax measure on <br /> <br />the November 2, 1982 state-wide election ballot, requesting <br /> <br />authority to impose a special tax in an amount not to exceed <br /> <br />$3.75 per year per parcel of real property; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLONS: <br /> <br />1. This Council does hereby urge the electors of the City <br /> <br />of Redwood City to vote "Yes" on local Measure A in the state-wide <br /> <br />election of November 2, 1982 to re-establish the financial <br /> <br />viability of the San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement District <br /> <br />so as to restore vital mosquito control for the public health <br /> <br />Q2-2.'J <br />'t_; -1 <br />
