<br />Exhibit "A" <br /> <br />February 1983 <br /> <br />SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />This is a responsible division head position involving the superV1Slon <br />of all maintenance activities of the City's Public Works Department <br />in the Water Division and Street and Sewer Division. The Superinten- <br />dent of Public Works works under the administrative direction of the <br />Director of Public Works. A person in this class supervises the <br />Pub11c Works Supervisors in the two branches and reviews their work. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />/ <br /> <br />Plans the work, organizes the activities, schedules and directs the <br />work of the Water and Street and Sewer Division; inspects the City's <br />water distribution system; coordinates work .of the department with <br />related City departments, private contractors, and othe public agencies; <br />plans, organizes and directs the overall operations for maintenance <br />of safe and efficient street and sewer facilities; confers with Public <br />Works Supervisors in both branches in scheduling and assigning personnel; <br />periodically inspects work in progress and upon completion to insure <br />conformance with standards; prepares and reviews reports of jOb <br />performance; prepares periodic reports of divisions activities; <br />establishes work priorities in construction and maintenance work; <br />answers questions and complaints from the public and sees that necessary <br />action is taken; prepares annual divisions' budget and controls budgetary <br />expenditures; evaluates employee performance, and recommends appropriate <br />disCiplinary action; maintains desirable and personable rapport with <br />other divisions and departments within the City. ' <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Knowl edge of: <br />Municipal public works administration; <br />Materials, equipment, procedures, and practices used in <br />operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of a <br />municipal water distribution system; <br />Materials, equipment, procedures, and practices in City <br />street and sewer construction, maintenance and repair; <br />Theories, principles and practices of supervision and <br />public works maintenance administration. <br /> <br />EXPERIENCE <br /> <br />Five years of increasingly responsible experience in public works <br />construction and maintenance at least three (3) years in a supervisory <br />or administrative capacity. <br /> <br />EDUCATION <br /> <br />Graduation from college with a degree in Civil Engineering or related <br />field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which <br />provide~ the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. <br />
