<br />EXHIBIT A <br /> <br />1/27/83 <br /> <br />ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST <br /> <br />The Accounting Specialist is a high level technical classification <br />working under the general supervision of a Senior Accountant. The <br />Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting in the invest- <br />ment of idle City funds, cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, <br />and accounting and budgeting work at a para-professional level. <br /> <br />This position may direct Account Clerks in the performance of their <br />duties. <br /> <br />TYPICAL DUTIES <br /> <br />Performs para-professional budgeting and accounting procedures as <br />directed by the Senior Accountant. Assists in working with banks <br />and lending institutions to place City funds in interest bearing <br />instruments. Maintains records of investments, estimates and <br />monitors cash requirements of the City, reconciles City checking <br />accounts, maintains file of miscellaneous accounts receivable <br />including initiation of billings, collections and follow-up on <br />accounts. Prepares reports, performs analyses of office accounting <br />procedures and performs other related duties as may be required. <br /> <br />REQUIRED ABILITIES <br /> <br />General knowledge of governmental accounting principles, practices <br />and procedures; some knowledge of the application of data <br />processing facilities in accounting; some knowledge of <br />general office procedures; ability to apply knowledge of accounting <br />principles and procedures to a variety of transactions; ability to <br />analyze accounting procedures; ability to establish and maintain <br />effective working relations with others; skill in preparing <br />accounting, financial and statistical statements and compiling <br />basic and supporting data. <br /> <br />EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE <br /> <br />High school diploma'supplemented by at least sixty (60) college <br />units in accounting, finance or economics. Three years <br />progressively increasing experience as an Account Clerk, Accounting <br />Technician or allied position. Demonstrated knowledge of <br />investment programs and cash flow analysis. <br />
