<br />":SXHIBIT .A" <br /> <br />STREET TREE INSPECTOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Serves as a leader of a crew or crews in ~~e forestry division <br />and maintenance of park, landscaped areas, or street trees; <br />does 'related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />A Street Tree Inspector serves as a working leader of a crew <br />performing duties in the maintenance of park, landscaped areas <br />and street trees. Work assignments are received from a Park <br />Supervisor who regularly inspects the work performed for <br />compliance with standards. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) <br /> <br />Assigns maintenance tasks and takes the lead in completing maintenance <br />and installation assignments; supervises and takes the lead in planting, <br />fertilizing, watering and trimming trees; assigns maintenance tasks to <br />subordinates and inspects work in process and upon completion; works with <br />crews and skilled help in the completion of assignments; operates required_ <br />park maintenance equipment; instructs and directs employees in proper and <br />safe operating methods; supervises and participates in applying fertilizers <br />and fungicides, planting, pruning, mowing and watering activities; keeps <br />working and time records of subordinate employees; requisitions supplies, <br />equipment and materials; supervises and participates in maintaining turf <br />areas by mowing, trimming, edging, spraying and performing closely related <br />tasks; operates, makes minor repairs and adjusts sprinklers; supervises <br />and part~cipates in setting up benches, tables and other equipment for <br />group recreation activities; takes the lead and oversees the cleaning and <br />routine repairing of buildings. Personally participates in tree trimming <br />and topping activities; operates and maintains chain saws and other light <br />and heavy equipment utilized in tree maintenance; reviews forestry work <br />requests and work orders to determine the pruning required and whether <br />the tree should be removed; makes periodical inspections of trees. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Good knowledge of park maintenance operations and tree cultivation practices <br />such as seeding, sodding, rolling, mowing, raking and sprinkling of turf, <br />trimming, spraying and pruning of trees or shrubs, and the care of flowers; <br />.good knowledge of tree removal, planting, watering and trimming; some <br />knowledge of landscape and street tree insects and diseases and the common <br />physiological problems associated with trees and landscaped areas; <br />practical working knowledge of accident prevention practices applicable to <br />park and tree maintenance activities; some skill in making minor repairs <br />and adjustments to hand and power tools; ability to layout and supervise <br />the work of others; ability to climb trees and perform heavy m~nual duties <br />relating to tree care; ability to keep records and reports, and to work <br />from oral and written instructions; ability to maintain satisfactory work- <br />ing relationships with others; excellent physical condition. <br />
