The statements are the Form 501 <br /> (Candidate Intention Statement), and the Form 502 (Campaign Bank Account <br /> Statement). These two forms previously were filed with the Fair Political Practices <br /> Commission. After January 1, they must be filed with theSecretary of [~ate~Polificat: <br /> Reform Division. <br /> <br /> The change is the result of legislation sponsored by Secretary of State Bill Jones and <br /> enacted by the California State Legislature in 1996. The legislation, Senate~Btl12060 <br /> (Chapter 289), will permit candidates to file all key start-up disclosure documents; <br /> including the Form 410 (Campaign Committee Staternentof Organization), ioone <br /> location. <br /> <br /> Senate Bill 2060 amends Government Code Sections 85200 and 85201 (the Political <br /> Reform Act of 1974). Before a candidate for elective office can solicit or receive <br /> contributions, he or she must file the Form 501 (Statement of Intention). Thenthe- <br /> candidate must establish a campaign bank account and file the Form 502 disclosing <br /> information about the account within 10 days. The new law requires candidatas to file <br /> an original and one copy of both of these forms with the Secretary of State~., : <br /> <br /> <br />
