<br />, <br /> <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />LITERACY PRO~*, DIRECTOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />To man.ge, direct, .nd coordin.te a volunteer-based literacy tutoring progr.m <br />for adults in the City of Redwood City; to supervise the lIt....cy Progr.m <br />staff; to maintain functional relations between literacy staff and other <br />library staff; and to establish and maintain community-based support and pub- <br />lic awareness for the project. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />Receives direction from the Library Director, the Assistant Library Director <br />or library Program Supervisor. <br /> <br />Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical and clerical staff. <br /> <br />EX~IPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not li.ited to, the follOWing: <br /> <br />Establish a coalition of community leaders, government officials, ~nd business <br />persons to SUpport and advise the literacy Program. <br /> <br />Establish and maintain a network of agencies related to the activities of the <br />program. <br /> <br />Develop a pUbliCity campaign in the community to increase awareness of illit- <br />eracy among adults. <br /> <br />Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates <br />for budget items. <br /> <br />Develop resources for financial support to the program by writing grant pro- <br />posals, soliciting corporate funds, etc. <br /> <br />Collect data and evaluate program. <br /> <br />Oversee the recruitment and training of volunteers and recruitment and place- <br />ment of students in the program. <br /> <br />Assume responsibility for producing publiCity vehicles such as brOChures, fly- <br />ers, newsletters, etc. <br /> <br />Select, train, motivate and evaluate personnel; provide or coordinate staff <br />tra in ing; work with employees to correct deficiencies; impl ement disci pl ine <br />and termination procedures. <br /> <br />Supervise project staff. <br /> <br />Develop and maintain appropriate record keeping mechanisms to track various <br />aspects of program utilization and effectiveness. <br /> <br />43 <br />
