<br />SEP 1 1 1989 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 11 1 3 2 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF DOROTHY PHILBRICK, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR OF <br />KAINOS HOME AND TRAINING CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED ADULTS AND <br />RECIPIENT OF THE 1989 SAN MATEO COUNTY FAIR AND FLORAL FIESTA SENIOR <br />CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dorothy Philbrick has recently been honored by the San <br />Mateo County Fair and Floral Fiesta as 1989 Senior Citizen of the Year <br />for her outstanding community service and successful programs for the <br /> <br />developmentally disabled at the Kainos Home and Training Center; and <br />WHEREAS, since 1974 when Dorothy Philbrick founded the Kainos home <br /> <br />and 1975 when she began her first programs, the developmentally disabled <br /> <br />have had a loving and supportive friend and teacher who has provided <br />housing, recreation and training in basic life skills and employment for <br />the 48 residents of Kainos and for many retarded adults in the <br /> <br />community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, all people of Redwood City are proud of Dorothy <br />Philbrick's accomplishments and grateful to her for the positive life <br />changes she has brought about for the developmentally disabled and <br />retarded adults of our community and grateful also for her hard work, <br />courage, and sacrifice that has ennobled her work and enriched our <br /> <br />community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE: <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Sincere congratulations are extended to Dorothy Philbrick for being <br />named Senior Citizen of the year and for her unwavering commitment and <br />sensitivity to the needs of the disabled. <br /> <br />* * * * * <br />
