<br />01/11/2010 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2351 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE ADDING ARTICLE III TO THE REDWOOD CITY <br />MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 33A RELATED TO REGULATIONS FOR <br />COURTHOUSE SQUARE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Courthouse Square is a unique community asset and gathering <br />place for the benefit of all of the residents in San Mateo County and shall be used solely <br />as a public plaza according to the Cooperative Agreement between the County of San <br />Mateo and the City of Redwood City for Preservation of the Historic County Courthouse <br />Block, Removal of the South Annex, Reconstruction of the Courthouse Fa<;ade and <br />Creation of Courthouse Plaza, and Grant of Easement and License, May 3, 2005; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City ("City") has the authority to manage and <br />operate Courthouse Square; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's existing Municipal Code does not currently enable the City <br />to permit and otherwise regulate events and behavior at Courthouse Square; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Chapter 33A Article III of the Redwood City Municipal <br />Code governing the use of Courthouse Square allows the City to establish a regulatory <br />framework for use of this public space. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. That Article III of Chapter 33A of the Redwood City Municipal <br />Code is hereby added to read as follows: <br /> <br />DIVISON 1. GENERALLY <br /> <br />Sec. 33A.36 Purpose: <br /> <br />Courthouse Square (Square) is a unique community asset created as a gathering <br />place for the benefit of all residents of San Mateo County. The City of Redwood City <br />preserves and operates Courthouse Square as a community resource that may be <br />enjoyed by the public and manages Courthouse Square to ensure the enjoyment, <br />convenience, and safety of the community. The purpose of this Chapter is to determine <br />when a Courthouse Square Event Permit is required, to support the management of <br />Courthouse Square, and to ensure the public safety at the Courthouse Square. <br /> <br />This Chapter is supplemented with the Courthouse Square Event Administrative <br />Guidelines and Courthouse Square Schedule of Fees. The Administrative Guidelines <br />describe the policies and procedures for events at Courthouse Square.
