ORD~NANCĀ£ NO. 2242 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE; ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE AND AS AMENDED THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 2000 EDITION, " AS PUBLISHED BY THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. B. Alarm system testin.q, maintenance or repair. It is a violation of this Code <br /> to cause the fire department to respond to an alarm caused by alarm system <br /> testing, maintenance or repair. <br /> <br /> C. As used in this section, "unintentional alarm" means an alarm caused by <br /> equipment malfunction, operator inadvertence or operator negligence. <br /> "Unintentional alarm" does not include an alarm caused by alarm system testing, <br /> maintenance or repair. <br /> <br /> Sec. 12.17. SECTION 1001.10.1 ADDED. Section 1001.10.1 is hereby added <br />to the Fire Code to read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 1001.10.1. Multistoried, High Rise Safety Requirements. <br /> <br /> (a) Air Replenishment Systems: All Group B (office) and Group R, Division 1 <br /> (hotels and apartments; congregate residences [each accommodating <br /> more than ten (10) persons] occupancies), each having floors used for <br /> human occupancy located more than seventy five feet (75') above the <br /> lowest level of fire department vehicular or personnel access (whichever <br /> access is more restrictive as determined by the Fire Chief) shall be <br /> equipped with an approved rescue air replenishment system. Such <br /> system shall provide an adequate pressurized fresh air supply through a <br /> permanent piping system for the replenishment of portable life sustaining <br /> air equipment carried by fire department, rescue, and other personnel in <br /> the per[ormance of their duties. Location and specifications of access <br /> stations to, and the installation of, such air replenishment systems shall be <br /> made in accordance with the requirements of the Fire Chief. <br /> <br /> (b) Firefighters Communications Systems: In buildings six (6) or more stories <br /> in height, firefighters communication systems shall be installed in <br /> accordance with the following requirements: <br /> <br /> (i) One access jack shall be provided at each stairwell landing and two <br /> (2) access jacks shall be provided in a lobby area of the building in <br /> plain view of elevator doors, and in any event at locations and <br /> according to specifications subject to the approval of the Chief of <br /> the Bureau of Fire Prevention. <br /> <br /> (ii) One telephone set shall be provided at each floor of the building; <br /> provided, that such telephone sets shall be located in the lobby <br /> area at a location and according to specifications subject to the <br /> approval of the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention. <br /> <br /> (iii) One additional telephone set shall be provided with not less than <br /> five hundred feet (500') of telephone cord and shall be maintained <br /> on a roller device providing convenient portability.
