05/07/2007 ORDINANCE NO. 2309 ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE ONE, TWO AND THREE OF CHAPTER 3 OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING ADVERTISING AND SIGNS THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: "CHAPTER 3 SECTION 1. Article One (Commercial Handbills) of Chapter 3 (Advertising and Signs) of the Redwood City Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding Section 3.9. as follows: Sec. 3.9. The provisions of the Article do not apply to "Real Estate Signs; Garage Sale Signs

<br />05/07/2007 <br /> <br />M. Severance. If any provision of this Article or the application thereof is held <br />by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unenforceable, such invalidity shall <br />not affect any other provision or application of this Article that can be given effect <br />without the invalid provision or application and, to this end, all of the provisions of this <br />Article are severable. In adopting this Article, the City Council declares that if it had <br />known that certain provisions were legally invalid, it would have adopted the Article <br />without such provisions. <br /> <br />DIVISION TWO. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />Sec. 3.60. DEFINITIONS: The following words and terms as used in this Article <br />shall have the meanings stated in this section. <br /> <br />ABANDONED SIGN: Any sign remaining in place or not maintained for a period of <br />ninety (90) days after it no longer advertises or identifies an ongoing business, product <br />or service available on the establishment premises where the display is located. <br /> <br />ACCESSORY USE: A use subordinate to the principal use on the same site or building <br />and serving a purpose customarily incidental to the principal use. <br /> <br />ADDRESS SIGN: A sign that displays the official address of a property or building. <br /> <br />ANIMATED SIGN: A sign with messages that are displayed electronically or <br />mechanically and change more frequently than once every twenty-four (24) hours <br />regardless of the method by which the visual change is effected. This definition does <br />not include traditional barber poles, hand-held signs, personally attended signs, <br />commercial mascots, and scoreboards. Animated signs include electronic message <br />signs, digital signs, and LED signs. <br /> <br />AUDIBLE SIGN: A sign with a speaker or other sound-emitting device. <br /> <br />AWNING: An overhead structure attached to a building wall and that consists of fabric <br />or other material covering a frame extending at least twelve (12) inches from the face of <br />a building. This definition does not include umbrellas on outdoor tables. <br /> <br />AWNING SIGN: A sign that is painted, printed, stenciled or attached to the surface of an <br />aWning. <br /> <br />BANNER, ARCHITECTURAL: A permanent sign made of plastic, canvas, fabric or <br />other material secured on the top and bottom to brackets that extend perpendicular from <br />a building wall or attached to or suspended from a fixture on real property, intended for <br />display over 90 days. <br /> <br />BANNER, TEMPORARY: A temporary sign made of plastic, canvas, fabric or other <br />materials that is attached to, or suspended from, a building wall, eave, or parapet or on <br /> <br />Atty/Ord/Ord.211 <br />032007 <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />Ord 2309 <br />formerly Muff # 305 <br />
