REPORT

7A
Page 1

November 26, 2007

SUBJECT
Results of November 6, 2007 Consolidated General Municipal Election

RECOMMENDATION
1. Adopt a resolution declaring Canvass of Returns and Results of General
Municipal Election held on November 6, 2007.
2. Direct the City Clerk to submit the amended ratified sections of the City Charter
to the Secretary of State and file a copy with the County Recorder, pursuant to
Government Code 34459, 34460 and Elections Code Section 9269.

BACKGROUND
The San Mateo County Elections Office was requested to conduct the Special and
General Municipal Election. In the past, the Elections Office has completed the
Certificate of the Chief Elections Officer after presenting the Canvass of Returns to the
Board of Supervisors. As the Elections Office has now published its Semi-Official
Election Results, presentation of the official elections results to the Board of Supervisors
will not occur until November 27, 2007; thus, the County Elections Office will not be able
to provide this office with it's certification of it's canvass of votes by the November 26.
2007 City Council meeting. This office has been in communication with the Elections
Office with respect to Redwood City's general election results and no information has
been brought to our attention that would suggest that any significant or substantial
factual or numerical deviation adversely affecting the re.sults shown on the attached
Exhibit "A" is likely to be discovered at the Board of Supervisors' meeting of November
27 I 2007. Under these circumstances, it is recommended that the City Council adopt the
attached resolution with the proviso that such adoption be subject to any significant or
substantial factual or numerical deviation which would adversely affect the election
results shown on Exhibit "A". Should in the unlikely event such deviation be discovered
at the Board of Supervisors' meeting, this office would return to the City Council on or
about December 10, 2007 with any modifications to the resolution.

ALTERNATIVES
None

FISCAL IMPACT
None

q)i...:.....j ~ .~.s.l> Q l
Patricia S.
