02/23/2009 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) <br />Commission of the City of Redwood City and its Park Rules Enforcement Subcommittee <br />conducted numerous outreach efforts to survey the public and evaluate the need for a <br />ban on smoking in City’s parks; and <br />WHEREAS, <br />these outreach efforts showed that 86% of those surveyed favor a <br />ban on smoking in parks, citing public health issues and the frequenting of parks by <br />children who are susceptible to the health effects of breathing secondhand smoke; and <br />WHEREAS, <br />the PRCS Commission of the City of Redwood City recommends <br />that the City Council adopt an ordinance prohibiting smoking in all City parks. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED AS FOLLOWS <br />: <br />1. Chapter 25, Article I. Section 25.2.02 (L) of the Redwood City <br />Municipal Code is amended in its entirety to read as follows: <br />25.2.02. No person shall engage in the following prohibited acts and/or <br />uses in a City park or facility: <br /> . . . <br />“L.
