ORDINANCE NO. 2101 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1994 EDITION", AS PUBLISHED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS AND THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Article II (commencing at 12.7) of Cliapter 12 of the Code of Redwood City is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. Article II (commencing at 12.7) is hereby added to Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City, to read follows

<br />.~ <br />to, and the installation of, such air replenishment systems shall be made in <br />accordance with the requirements of the Chief. <br />(b) Firefighters Communications Systems: In buildings six (6) or more <br />stories in height, firefighters communication systems shall be installed in <br />accordance with the following requirements: <br />(i) One access jack shall be provided at each stairwell landing and two <br />(2) access jacks shall be provided in a lobby area of the building in plain <br />view of elevator doors, and in any event at locations and according to <br />specifications subject to the approval of the Fire Prevention Bureau. <br />(ii) One telephone set shall be provided at each floor of the building; <br />provided, that such telephone sets shall be located in the lobby area at a <br />location and according to specifications su.bject to the approval of the <br />Fire Prevention Bureau. <br />(iii) One additional telephone set shall be provided with not less than <br />five hundred feet (500') of telephone cord and shall be maintained on a <br />roller device providing convenient portability. Said telephone set shall <br />likewise be maintained at a location and according to specifications <br />approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau. <br />(c) Emergency Planning and Information: In addition to the buildings and <br />occupancy groups specified in Title 19 of the California Code of <br />Regulations, Section 3.09, the owner(s) or operator(s) of every building four <br />(4) or more stories in height shall post a floor plan sign which shall provide <br />emergency procedures at every stairway landing, elevator landing, and <br />immediately inside all public entrances to the building. Information <br />contained in the floor plan signs shall include, but shall not be limited to, <br />the following: <br />1. Location of exits and fire alarm initiating stations; <br />2. Description of fire alarm sounds and appearance; <br />3. Fire Department emergency telephone number "911"; <br />4. Prohibition of the use of elevators during emergencies; <br />5. Instructions to be followed by ambulatory, nonambulatory, and <br />disabled persons in the event of an emergency; <br />6. Notation 'you are here' or other readily understandable marking <br />specifying the location on the floor plan sign. <br /> 5 <br />
