ORDINANCE NO. 2161 ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II, CHAPTER 3 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD RELATING TO SIGNS AND ADDING ARTICLE II, CHAPTER 3 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO SIGNS Section 1. Article II ("Signs") of Chapter 3 of the Code of the City of Redwood City is hereby repealed. Section 2. Article II ("Signs") is hereby added to Chapter 3 of the Code of the City of Redwood City to read as follows: "ARTICLE II SIGNS

ii. The sign is not displayed in a manner which impedes or could impede <br /> the movement of vehicles, bicycles or pedestrians; imitates, simulates, <br /> or interferes with an official traffic sign, signal or devise; or obstructs <br /> the visibility of motorists, bicyclists or pedestrians. <br /> <br /> c. Easements. Any sign placed under an overhead utility line or in, on, within or <br /> over an easement owned by a public agency or utility company unless approval <br /> is obtained from such agency or utility company, and applicable federal, state <br /> and local requirements are satisfied. <br /> <br /> d. Visibility Triangle. Any sign exceeding three (3) feet in height (above grade) or <br /> any support pole or pedestal exceeding eighteen (18) inches in diameter located <br /> within a fifteen (15) foot visibility triangle on either side of the intersection of a <br /> driveway with a street or alley or the intersection of two (2) streets. The triangle <br /> shall be formed by projecting the property lines abutting each street, driveway or <br /> alley to a point of intersection. From that point, two (2) sides of the triangle shall <br /> be extended for a distance of fifteen (15) feet along each property line. The <br /> base of the triangle consists of a line connecting the ends of the projected <br /> property lines. <br /> <br /> e. Building Ingress/Egress. Any sign located in a manner that would obstruct <br /> ingress or egress from an exterior door, window or fire escape of a building or <br /> where it could interfere with emergency or handicap access. <br /> <br /> f. Building Roof. Any sign mounted on a building roof or which projects above a <br /> building wall, eave, or parapet. <br /> <br /> g. Parked Vehicles and Trailers. Any sign located on parked vehicles or trailers <br /> on any public right-of-way or at any location visible from a public street for the <br /> primary purpose of offering the vehicle or trailer for sale or advertising a <br /> business, product, service or business activity. This provision shall not prohibit <br /> signs that are incidental to the primary use of a vehicle or trailer or signs on any <br /> vehicle or trailer owned by a public agency or used in the normal day-to-day <br /> operation of a business. <br /> <br /> h. Freeways. Signs located within six hundred and sixty (660) feet of the outer <br /> limits of the main traveled roadway of a freeway, with the exception of temporary <br /> signs, real estate signs and signs permitted under the provisions of the Freeway <br /> Overlay District (as defined and described in the Zoning Ordinance). <br /> <br /> DIVISION 10.
