ORDINANCE NO. 2166 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1997 EDITION", AS PUBLISHED BY THE INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE INSTITUTE THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Article II (commencing at §12.7) of Chapter 12 of the Code of Redwood City is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. Article II (commencing at §12.7) is hereby added to Chapter 12 of the Code of the City of Redwood City, to read as follows

Section 12.16. Section 1003.2.10 added. , <br /> <br /> Section 1003.2.10 is hereby added to the Fire C~de to read as follows: <br /> Section 1003.2.10. Automatic Sprinkler Systems. <br /> <br /> Notwithstanding any contrary provisions of this Code or the provisions of any <br />other Code of the City, approved automatic sprinkler systems shall be installed in <br />the following buildings or structures: <br /> <br /> (a) New Buildings: (i) All new Group R, Division 3 occupancy dwellings and <br /> structures; (ii) all other new buildings or structures with a total floor area <br /> of three thousand (3,000) square feet or more. <br /> <br /> (b) Change in occupancy group: When there is a change in occupancy group <br /> or use from a less hazardous to a more hazardous occupancy group or <br /> use. <br /> <br /> In the event standards or requirements of this section are less restrictive than <br />the standards or requirements of any other provisions of the Redwood City <br />Code, as amended, the more restrictive standards shall govern. <br /> <br />Section 12.17. Section 1003.3.1 amended. <br /> <br /> Section 1003.3.1 of the Fire Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> Section 1003.3.1. Where required. <br /> <br /> All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and <br />water-flow switches on all sprinkler systems shall be electrically monitored when <br />there are twenty (20) or more sprinkler heads. <br /> <br /> Valve monitoring and water-flow alarm and trouble signals shall be distinctly <br />different and shall be automatically transmitted to an approved central station as <br />defined by national standards. <br /> <br /> Exceptions: <br /> <br /> 1. Underground key or hub valves in roadway boxes provided by the <br /> municipality or public utility need not be momtored. <br /> <br /> 2. An alarm automatically transmitted to an approved central station is not <br /> required for Group R, Division 30ccupancies~ provided with a local water- <br /> flow alarm. <br /> <br />Section 12.18.
