<br /> need not be elevated. <br /> " , (c) All water heaters installed in areas where they <br /> may be subjected to mechanical damage shall be suitably <br /> guarded against such damage by being installed behind <br /> adequate barriers or by being elevated or located out of <br /> the normal path of a vehicle using any such garage. <br /> " I (d) When domestic hot water heaters are installed <br /> within Group R-l or R-3 Occupancies as defined in the 1979 <br /> Uniform Building Code straps shall be required for earth- <br /> quake anchorage. <br /> " I (e) When domestic hot water heaters are installed <br /> and are located in an area or compartment where <br /> leaks would likely cause significant damage to the <br /> building or furnishings, they shall be provided <br /> wi th a safety pan and drain. Such safety pans shall be of <br /> noncombustible materials and of such dimensions as to extend <br /> beyond the exterior water heater casing at least two (2) <br /> inches and have a depth of at least two and one eighth <br /> (2-1/8) inches. The drain pipe shall not be less than <br /> three-fourths (3/4) inch and shall discharge either into <br /> the underfloor crawl space or be taken to the exterior of <br /> the building. <br />SECTION 3. If any sections, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, <br />or portion of this ordinance, or the Code adopted by reference in this <br />ordinance, or any amendment thereof, is for any reason held invalid, <br />or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such <br />portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision, <br />and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining <br />portions thereof. <br />SECTION 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict <br />with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. <br />SECTION 5.
